Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Dempsey!

Congratulations to T.J. and Reanna who were married on Saturday, June 27 in a beautiful ceremony at Herrington on the Bay in Friendship, Maryland.  The weather was perfect and their reception was a blast – so glad we were able to be a part of their special day!

    Time goes by quickly

Nine years ago today, Jeff and I went on our first date!  We dined at Applebee’s and then we went to a friend’s party; I can’t believe so many years have passed since that day.  Now that we are married, we don’t necessarily “celebrate” this day but we usually acknowledge it to one another.

We started dating when we were both only eighteen years old – five days out from our high school graduation, alive with the anticipation of a life without our parents while we were away at college.  In the beginning of our relationship, I don’t think either of us necessarily had marriage on our minds — we were having fun and going with the flow.

In 2004, we went on a trip to Negril, Jamaica with a group of our friends.  On one our last days on the tropical island paradise, we went on a boat trip.   The entire day was magical, the skies were sunny and cloudless.  The air was sweet, windy, fresh.  We went cliff diving, snorkeling and stopped the boat for lunch out in the deep, blue ocean.  On our way back to shore, the hot sun had begun to set.  The mood was still, quiet and surreal as we looked out over the horizon and took-in the breathtaking view.   I vividly remember looking over at Jeff as he mouthed, “I love you” and kissed me on my forehead.  That day, out in the middle of the sea, was one of the most perfect and genuinely happy of my entire life — in that breath, on that little boat,  I knew that I wanted to spend my life with the man beside me.

We soon graduated from college, moved to Bethesda, rented our first apartment (which we paid way too much for), adopted a few cats, worked at jobs we both hated, struggled with money and overall tried to adjust to life in the “real world”   Everyday wasn’t perfect but we knew we would always come home to each other; we were each other’s refuge from a world that we were both learning could cold and unforgiving.

In 2007, we finally took the plunge and made it official (although in our hearts it had been official for years) — forever and ever, amen.   For good times, for bad times, for happy times, for sad times.

I’m happy to report that world has become a little more warm as we’ve grown older.  We now live in the suburbs, own a home, have a dog (and still have our furry cats),  have jobs we love and our money troubles are a distant memory.  In the past nine years we have certainly had our fair share of rough times (what couple doesn’t?) but I’m proud to say that the majority of our days together have been sunny.

The best part of my day is waking up beside my best friend; I still get goosebumps every time Jeff kisses me on the forehead.

I am lucky and grateful to have such a wonderful life partner; I wouldn’t change any of it – not a second, not a moment, not at all.   I still fall more and more in love each day.  I can’t wait for nine more years of adventure and continuing to work on making it work!

                    Do you know the difference?

Jeff and I have had a long-standing debating regarding one’s ability to ascertain the difference between an Atheist and an Agnostic.  My thought is that although similar, most people know the fundamental differences between each definition.  Jeff’s thought is that the majority of people do not know the difference between each definition.

We have taken random polls amongst strangers (I know, we are weird) but since we have a blog (how handy!) I think it would be a slightly more structured way of getting answers.

Do you know the difference between an Atheist and an Agnotic?

                        • Yes (88.0%, 14 Votes)
                        • No (6.0%, 1 Votes)
                        • I always get confused between the two (6.0%, 1 Votes)

                        Total Voters: 16

                        I’m a bad mom

Me: I’m starting to like Harlow a little more now that she is starting to get the whole house training business.
Jeff: See, I knew you would come around.  How can you resist her face?
Me: Yeah, she is really cute.  I love her chubby little belly and fat rolls.  [Talking to Harlow] I love your little fat belly!
                        Jeff: Stop that!
                        Me: What?!
Jeff: You are making her self conscious and giving her a poor body image.  Next thing you know she is going to be depressed and you’ll be trying to convince me to hire a dog therapist and put her on Prozac.
                        Me: What’s wrong with that?

The Longest Time – Howl at the Moon, Baltimore

Below is a video of Jeff singing “The Longest Time” by Bill Joel.

For those that are unaware, Jeff is a dueling piano player at Howl at the Moon in Baltimore, Maryland.  He loves visitors so stop by anytime Wednesday thru Saturday – he would love to see you!

Harlow the Wonder Dog (or something like that)

I’m still trying to get the hang of my new video camera and today I took some shots of Harlow’s “tricks” (sit, down, shake and stay).  She is only seven months old and so far is making great progress.

FYI – She has gone two days with ZERO accidents on our carpet - YAY!

                        Wha!

The only purpose of this post is so I can complain how I don’t want to work and I want to stay home and be a domestic goddess.  I swore that I would never feel this way.  Sometimes I love my job but its stressful and I would look much cuter in an apron anyway.

I keep telling Jeff that I could take care of the house and clean and cook.  And then he laughs because who they hell am I kidding – the only thing I can cook is spaghetti, and I don’t like to clean.   And then I say well, I could be a trophy wife – I’ll get a personal trainer and my job will be just to look pretty and rub your feet.  And then he laughs because who the hell am I kidding – I don’t like feet and if I quit my job we couldn’t afford a personal trainer.

I try to come up with all kinds of schemes so I can quit my job and work part-time: become a photographer, open a greeting card business, open a dog walking business, own a burrito buggy, become a house sitter.  And Jeff always goes along with it, probably because he knows that the next week it will be something new.

How about I just win the lottery – then I can do whatever I want!  Meh – if it was only that easy.

                        Is is Friday yet?

                        Happy Birthday, To Me!

Yesterday was my birthday and I turned 27 which means that I’m officially in my late twenties – meh.  I received some lovely cards, emails, tweets, phone calls and gifts from family and friends which helped to make my day special.

Jeff gave me the Flip Mino Video Camera.  It’s about the size of a cell phone or iphone (approximately 2″ wide and 4″ tall), records up to one hour of video and the quality is amazing for the price.  You can also get it with HD recording capabilites but for our purposes it wasn’t worth the extra money.  The Mino is perfect for us because we will be using it for short clips with family/friends/pets/vacations, etc.

I love it.  See our first video below!
